About Explorer Scouts:
Explorer Scout Units are open to both males and females who will normally join between fourteen and fifteen, and stay until they are 18. Explorer Scouting is designed to be flexible to meet the needs of the members whilst still giving you the opportunity to learn and develop teamwork and leadership skills at the same time as accommodating their hectic lifestyle and other commitments.
Explorer Scouting provides the opportunity to be involved in leadership, socialising and activities. Explorer Scout Units are run with adult guidance as the members learn and develop a very wide variety of skills taking part in many varied activities and pursuits.
Explorer Scouts go camping, hiking, rock climbing, abseiling, power boating, sailing, canoeing and they do all of this with their friends. Some Explorer Scout Units organise trips abroad others prefer to stay at home; it is up to the Unit and the members to decide what they want to do. The Leaders will help and will give advice to the members as well as organise the activities.
Explorer Scouts enjoy many outdoor activities and as a training section they can gain four certificates of achievement, the Duke of Edinburgh Award and the Platinum and Diamond Chief Scouts Awards which may later lead those who are willing to put in extra effort to the Queens Scouts Award.
Who we are:
We are the Iceni Explorer Scout Unit. We are currently have approximately 10 explorers, one Assistant Explorer Scout Leader (AESL) and a helper. We are part of the Wimbledon & Wandle District and our County is Greater London South West (GLSW).
What we do:
We meet once a week on a Wednesday at 7.50pm - 10pm. We meet at 1st Morden Scout Hall in Central Rod, Morden. We do not own the scout hall but only use it. We play games, do loads of fun stuff, go camping and do adventurous activities.
Our program involves lots of outdoor activities, fun team challenges, camps abroad and home, award work, silly games and much more. During the summer months we regularly do Archery and Riffle Shooting (We have the facilities at our hall to run both of these) and are trying to get more water sports into the program for next year.
The leaders will run what ever activity you want to do, the leaders are just there to help you achieve what you want. That may be doing a series of Kayaking evens or it could be to achieve your Queen Scout Award.
