1st Morden Scout Group
In the 1920s our Scout Group was called the 4th Mitcham.
Because so many of it’s members came from the Morden area and the just-being-built council estate, it became one of the first Groups in the newly formed Morden and St Helier District and was re-named 1st Morden. It met in ‘Number 4 School’ !
Time passed and the 1st became one of the best Groups around. It moved from the School to a new home called Searchlight Cottages on the London Road. From there it moved to British Rail land nearby and eventually, in 1987 arrived at it current resting place on land owned by Merton Council – only yards from its previous homes.
The Scout Group consists of a Beaver Colony (boys and girls aged 6 – 8), our Cub pack (boys and girls aged 8 – 10) and a Scout Troop (boys and girls aged 10 – 14). The Iceni Explorer Unit also meets in our HQ and caters for young people aged 14 – 18.
The members of our Scout Group get the chance to take part in an amazing array of activities – Camping, Canoeing, Rafting, Climbing, Abseiling, Hiking, Grass sledging, Archery, Pioneering, Orienteering, Flying and Ice Skating
Dave Bixby has gained a position in District as ADC Scouts, he will be leaving the group at the start of the Autumn Term 2008. We would like to say a massive thanks for all Dave's hard work over the years, he has been with the group almost 30 years on and off.
